A House For the Future

A House For the Future

Through Tony Emery, Soilco has recently been involved in the Sustaining our Shoalhaven (SOS) house project.

The SOS Project will be opened as a “display home” for 12 months after completion. The end result of the project will be a house that is more comfortable to live in, more economical to maintain, and has significantly less impact o the environment than a regular house. It also has substantial lifestyle and investment benefits.

The timber used for building the house was recovered from the old Tapitallee Bridge and has been recycled by Council to show that many materials that Council uses are recyclable and can help to sustain our environment.

“This project contains a number of ecologically sustainable principles, such as recycling,” Shoalhaven Mayor - Clr Green said. “As a major organisation in our city, we need to ensure that we recycle materials to show that we care for the environment and also that we wisely use our resources. This will have a direct influence on our greenhouse gas footprint,”

Soilco’s involvement in the project has been by providing products from the recycled organics range. Soilco currently recycles approximately 70 000 cubic metres of recycled organics which are then manufactured into a wide range of products suitable for the urban, agricultural and environmental markets.

For more information about these products, checkout our recycled organics fact sheet.
